Howard freely improvised for an hour before featuring his pre-existing pieces in the second half. The concerts took place while bushfires raged in Australia, and were nearly cancelled because of the heat, but offered solace and comfort to audiences during that time.
The video responds to Howards’ improvised track Passions of All Kinds with a blend of super 8 and digital formats that bring together fragmented observations, which are out of focus, suggestive and layered with fleeting moments of definition. Moving with Howard’s playing like following a consciousness; as recollection blends and ripples with longing, zeal and the residues of passion to depict all that is not solid.
